Cheese Shawarma Roll

Cheese Shawarama roll is an authentic fusion of delightful cheese and easily available ingredients which can satisfy your brunch cravings with every bite.

1 cupYoghurt
2 tbspLemon juice
3Garlic cloves, minced
1 tspCumin powder
1 tspPaprika powder
1 tspCoriander powder
1/2 tspTurmeric powder
1/2 tspCinnamon powder
To tasteSalt and pepper
2 tbspOlive oil
To Serve
1/2 cupCheddar cheese, grated
4Parathas or pita bread
1 cupLettuce, shreded
1 Tomato, sliced
1 Onion, sliced
1/4 cupToum (garlic sauce)

Method

  • In a large bowl, combine the yoghurt, lemon juice, minced garlic, cumin, paprika, coriander, turmeric, cinnamon, salt, and pepper. Add the chicken thighs, ensuring they are well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or overnight for best results.
  • Heat olive oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Add the marinated chicken and cook for 6-8 minutes on each side, or until fully cooked and golden brown. Remove from the pan and let rest for a few minutes before slicing into thin strips.
  • Warm the pita breads or flatbreads. Place a generous amount of sliced chicken in the centre of each bread. Top with the cheddar cheese, shredded lettuce, tomato slices, and red onion.
  • Place the assembled shawarma on a baking sheet and put it under the grill for 2-3 minutes, or until the cheese has melted.
  • Drizzle with tahini sauce or garlic yoghurt sauce.
  • Roll up the shawarma and serve immediately, enjoying the blend of melted cheese, spiced chicken, and fresh vegetables.
