Chicken Cheese Steamed Momos

Steamed momos are a cherished dish originating from Tibet, now enjoyed across India for their comforting warmth and delightful flavours. This recipe puts a twist on the traditional momos by combining succulent chicken and melting cheese, creating a delicious blend of textures and tastes.
Originating from the Himalayan region, momos have evolved into various versions, including steamed, fried, or even pan-fried. Steamed momos, in particular, are known for their health benefits as they are not fried and retain the nutrients of their fillings.
These momos are ideal for gatherings with family and friends, offering a communal dining experience where everyone can enjoy wrapping, steaming, and savouring each delectable bite. The combination of juicy chicken, gooey Britannia The Laughing Cow Cheese Block, and delicate dough creates a dish that is both comforting and satisfying, perfect for any occasion.

Method

  • In a bowl, combine minced chicken, grated Britannia The Laughing Cow Cheese Block, chopped onion, minced garlic, grated ginger, cumin powder, coriander powder, chilli powder, and salt. Mix well until evenly combined. Set aside.
  • In another bowl, mix the all-purpose flour with a pinch of salt. Gradually add water and knead into a smooth, firm dough. Cover with a damp cloth and let it rest for 15-20 minutes.
  • Divide the dough into small lime-sized balls. Roll each ball into a thin circle (about 3-4 inches in diameter) using a rolling pin.
  • Place a spoonful of the chicken-cheese filling in the centre of each dough circle. Fold the edges of the circle over the filling, pleating as you go, to create a gathered pouch. Pinch the edges together to seal tightly.
  • Grease a steamer basket or tray with oil to prevent sticking. Arrange the momos in the steamer, leaving space between each one to expand during steaming.
  • Steam over high heat for 10-12 minutes, or until the dough is cooked through and the filling is hot and juicy.
  • Transfer the steamed momos to a serving plate. Serve hot with a dipping sauce of your choice.
