Three Cheese Lasagna
With every forkful of this cheesy lasagna, you will enjoy layers of ricotta, mozzarella, and parmesan, complemented by the rich homemade sauce.

2 tbsp | Olive oil |
1 | Onion, chopped |
3 cloves | Garlic, minced |
1 pound | Ground meat |
1 can | Tomatoes, crushed |
1 can | Tomato sauce |
2 tbsp | Tomato paste |
1 tsp | Dried basil |
1 tsp | Dried oregano |
To taste | Salt and pepper |
For Cheese Mixture | |
1 1/2 cup | Ricotta cheese |
1 | Egg, beaten |
2 tbsp | Fresh parsley, chopped |
For Assembly | |
12 | Lasagna noodles |
3 cups | Mozzarella cheese, shredded |
1 1/2 cups | Parmesan cheese, grated |
As needed | Fresh basil, chopped |
Method
- In a large pan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
- Add the ground meat to the pan and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon.
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Let the sauce simmer on low heat for about 20–30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Set aside.
- Cook the noodles according to the package instructions, then drain and lay them flat on a sheet of parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- In a medium bowl, combine the ricotta cheese with the beaten egg and fresh parsley or basil. Stir until smooth and set aside.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a 9x13-inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom.
- Place 3–4 lasagna noodles over the sauce, slightly overlapping. Spread a third of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, then add a layer of meat sauce, followed by a layer of shredded mozzarella and a sprinkle of parmesan.
- Repeat the layering process two more times (noodles, ricotta mixture, meat sauce, mozzarella, and parmesan).
- For the final layer, add remaining noodles, and a generous amount of sauce, and top with mozzarella and parmesan.
- Cover the baking dish with aluminium foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15–20 minutes.
- For the best texture, let the lasagna rest for 10–15 minutes before cutting to allow the layers to set.
- Garnish with fresh basil if desired and serve warm with a side of garlic bread and salad for a complete meal.
