If you want to surprise your kids with a yummy meal at home, what can be better than a cheesy pizza? It's wholesome and combines fun, creativity along with deliciousness. But why order an expensive pizza when you can bake this irresistible delight at home with some basic ingredients? This Italian dish made with vegetables, sauce, spices and the goodness of cheese can be easily prepared at home.

Cheesy Pizza

Nothing can beat a homemade cheesy pizza when it comes to surprising your kids. Loaded with veggies, it is perfect for a wholesome meal.

Ingredients:

For the dough:

2 tsp Active dry yeast
1 cup Warm water (100°F/40°C)
3 cups All-purpose flour
1 tspWhite sugar
1 tbspDried oregano
1 tspSalt
1Egg
1 tbspExtra-virgin olive oil
For the pizza sauce:

15 ounceTomatoes, diced
6 ounce Tomato paste
1/2 Small onion, chopped (optional)
1 tbsp Dried oregano
1 Garlic clove, finely chopped
1 tspOnion powder
1 tsp Kosher salt
1 pinch Ground black pepper
For the pizza toppings:

1 1/4 cupsMozzarella cheese, shredded
1/2 cupGreen bell pepper, chopped
1/2 cupOnion
1/2 cupFresh mushrooms, sliced

Method

    In a small bowl, sprinkle yeast over warm water. Let stand for 5 minutes until foamy.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, oregano, and salt.
  • Beat egg and olive oil together, then stir into dry ingredients.
  • Stir in yeast mixture until dough forms a ball.
  • Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  • In a saucepan, combine diced tomatoes, tomato paste, onion (if using), oregano, garlic, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  • Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until thickened, about 15-20 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 450°F (235°C). Grease a baking sheet. Punch down dough and divide into two equal pieces.
  • Shape dough into two rounds, let rest for 10 minutes, then roll into rectangles.
  • Place dough on a prepared baking sheet. Spread pizza sauce evenly over dough.
  • Sprinkle with 1 ¼ cups mozzarella cheese, then add desired toppings (bell pepper, onion, mushrooms).
  • Top with remaining ¼ cup mozzarella cheese. Bake in a preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and cheese is melted and bubbly. Enjoy.
